Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 9:30am-12:30pm
This program is designed for children that turn three years old before the VBCPS cutoff date of September 30th of the year they are enrolled. Classes are held three days per week, on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Each class has up to ten children with two full-time teachers in each classroom. Children must be potty trained to attend the three-year-old class.
Program Details:
We strive to introduce the children to school in a fun, loving, relaxed atmosphere. Our goal is to focus on the concepts developed by VBCPS as important for preschool children. Teachers work closely with the students to strengthen listening skills, introduce early reading, writing and math concepts, and participate socially.
Vocabulary – We work on encouraging speech and developing the child’s vocabulary with daily interactions with teachers and friends. Show and Tell is held weekly to enforce information sharing and presentation.
Pre-Reading Skills – A three-year-old is busy developing pre-reading skills such as hand-eye coordination and tracking. These particular abilities are developed through toys and games.
Art – Daily crafts are made using paint, crayons, glue, scissors, and other supplies, keeping the children engaged and working on improving fine motor skills.
Science – The children enjoy creating experiments and observing results.
Technology – Technology using iPads is introduced, when appropriate, expanding on and enhancing our curriculum.
Academics – Our three-year-old program introduces children to letter recognition both in writing and in phonetics. Letters, numbers, basic shapes, and colors, are all reviewed daily. In addition to working on writing the “Letter of the Week”, children are taught to write their own name in proper form – First letter capitalized, followed by lower case letters. Basic shapes and colors are taught in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL). Parent/Teacher conferences are offered throughout the year.
Praise and Worship (PAW) – Our Preschool holds weekly Praise and Worship (PAW). PAW allows the children to gather together as a school to talk about our monthly Bible verse and Letter of the Week. A short story and singing/dancing rounds out the event.
Tools for Success – Our classrooms are stocked with age-appropriate games and toys, manipulatives (i.e. blocks, counters), and imaginative play items. Books are invaluable at this stage, and children are encouraged to look through them on their own as well as participate in our daily story time.
Our three-year-olds are introduced to routine including lining up, sitting in a circle and following instructions. Sharing, cooperation, making new friends, and clear communication are promoted and encouraged.
