This program is designed for children that turn two years old before the VBCPS cutoff date of September 30th of the year they are enrolled. Classes are offered two days per week, on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. There is an option to enroll your child in both sessions, providing your child with a four-day program. Each class has up to seven children with two full-time teachers. Children do not have to be potty trained to attend this class.
Program Details:
The Terrific Two’s program welcomes and enhances the enthusiasm and “sponge-like” learning style of our youngest members. It is a special year for learning about friends, routines and transition. We provide a variety of age-appropriate materials including puzzles, games, soft and hard blocks, transportation toys, housekeeping utensils, and a library corner. Activities get the children involved in science experiments, crafts, and technology.
Vocabulary – We work on developing the child’s vocabulary with time spent each day having conversations with the children, sharing experiences, and encouraging correct word usage and pronunciation.
Fine Motor Skills – Books and creative art projects, focus on fine motor development and hand-eye coordination.
Self-Help Skills – Learning and reinforcing self-help skills such as bathroom readiness, putting on a jacket, helping clean up at the table, putting toys away, saying a blessing at snack time, etc., turns into fun.
A modified curriculum from the older classes will be introduced, including American Sign Language (ASL), Letter of the Week, Number of the Week, and Color of the Week. We also introduce number sequencing and basic shapes as part of our routine.
A free summer meet and greet is provided for enrolled two year olds, where families can meet their children’s teachers. This helps the child adjust to the teachers, the classroom and gives them the opportunity to meet their new friends!
