This program is designed for children who turn four years old before the Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) cutoff date of September 30 of the year in which they are enrolled.
Classes meet four days per week (Monday through Thursday). Each classroom includes up to twelve children with two full-time teachers.
Children must be potty trained to attend the Pre-K class.
Program Overview
The Pre-K program is designed to support a smooth and confident transition into Kindergarten. Our curriculum is based on early learning concepts aligned with Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS).
We focus on strengthening listening skills, early literacy and writing development, foundational math concepts, vocabulary growth, and positive social development. Learning is intentionally designed to be engaging, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate.
Learning Areas
Vocabulary Development
Children build vocabulary through daily conversations, guided instruction, and peer interactions. Weekly Show and Tell activities encourage students to practice communication, organization of thoughts, and presentation skills.
Pre-Reading Skills
Letter recognition and phonics are reinforced weekly through sight, sound, and print. Letters are introduced in a structured sequence to support early reading readiness and fluency development.
Art & Fine Motor Development
Daily creative activities using paint, crayons, glue, scissors, and other materials help children strengthen fine motor skills while expressing creativity.
Math Concepts
Early math skills are introduced in fun, hands-on ways, including activities such as sorting, patterning, Venn diagrams, and glyph creation.
Early Academics & Enrichment
Our program is built on the belief that learning should be engaging and enjoyable. Instruction supports early language arts, phonics, mathematics, science, technology, engineering, and social studies concepts.
A variety of learning formats are used throughout the day, including learning centers, circle time, teacher-led instruction, and outdoor exploration. Students also participate in guest presentations and themed celebrations that enhance their learning experience.
Shapes and colors are taught in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL). Parent/teacher conferences are offered throughout the year to support communication and student growth.
Technology Integration
Age-appropriate technology, including supervised iPad activities when appropriate, is used to enhance and extend learning experiences.
Praise and Worship (PAW)
Weekly Praise and Worship (PAW) brings students together as a school community to learn a monthly Bible verse and review the Letter of the Week. Each session includes a short Bible story along with music, singing, and movement activities.
