Program Details:
Designed to help children make a smooth transition into Kindergarten, our curriculum is based on concepts developed by Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS). We strive to strengthen listening skills, and focus on early reading and writing concepts. Proper vocabulary usage is encouraged, math is introduced and social development is a priority.
Vocabulary – We work on encouraging speech and developing the child’s vocabulary with daily interactions with teachers and friends. Show and Tell is held weekly to enforce information sharing and presentation.
Pre-Reading Skills – A letter of the alphabet is reinforced each week phonetically, by sight, and in print. Letters are introduced in a sequence that encourages pre-reading skills.
Art – Daily crafts are made using paint, crayons, glue, scissors, and other supplies, keeping the children engaged and working on improving fine motor skills.
Math – Math concepts are introduced while having fun with Venn diagrams and creating Glyphs.
Academics – Our program is based on the concept that learning is FUN! It is designed to strengthen verbal skills, language arts, phonics, and mathematic concepts, even adding S.T.E.M. activities and social studies to round out our day. To achieve the best results, a wide variety of approaches are used, including centers, circle time, teacher directed activities, and outdoor activities. Our students get to experience guest presenters and thematic celebrations to enhance their preschool experience. Shapes and colors are taught in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL). Parent/Teacher conferences are offered throughout the year.
Technology – Technology using iPads is introduced, when appropriate, expanding on and enhancing our curriculum.
Praise and Worship (PAW) – Our Preschool holds weekly Praise and Worship (PAW). PAW allows the children to gather together as a school to talk about our monthly Bible verse and Letter of the Week. A short story and singing/dancing rounds out the event.
